Positive Parent Program Required for Custody Cases
Beginning Sept. 3, 2024 Hamilton County Juvenile Court will require all parties involved in a child custody case to complete the Positive Parent Program, or Triple P. Triple P is a free, online program that provides parents with tools and strategies to help them build good relationships with their child or teenager.
“Part of our job in mitigating custody cases is to create the best possible outcome for situations that are often very challenging for adults and for children,” said Liz Igoe, Hamilton County Court Administrator, “We believe Triple P is an important tool to help parents develop and sustain healthy relationships with their children.”
The free, online, evidence-based program, which is available in English and Spanish, includes six individualized modules for parents/guardians of children ages newborn to 12, and eight sections for those with teenaged children. Upon completion, participants are issued a certificate that they must present in print or from their phone to the Magistrate or Judge assigned to the case. If someone has not completed the course at the time of their hearing, they must still show up for the hearing, but may ask for an extension to complete the course.

Triple P supports parents in their journey to raise happy and resilient children, set boundaries, and follow up with consequences that are not harmful. The program addresses family conflict, parent stress, psychological aggression, and other family risk factors. The goal is to increase coping skills and reduce harmful consequences such as violent discipline and depression and anxiety in children.
Parents and guardians with custody cases will receive letters informing them how to access Triple P and the requirements of the Court. Anyone can learn more by visiting the Triple P website or by scanning the QR code to the right.
