Youth Center

The Hamilton County Juvenile Court Youth Center is staffed by a team of dedicated, caring, and trained professionals, committed to providing a safe, secure and structured learning environment for the young people in our care. All Youth Center services are without regard to race, nationality, creed, gender, handicap or reason for confinement.

The Youth Center is located at 2020 Auburn Avenue. It is a secure bed, county detention facility that includes two courtrooms. Behavioral Health Services Department and Intake Complaint Processing Center are also located on-site. The Youth Center partners with Cincinnati Public Schools to provide daily education to the children in our care. We also provide crisis intervention services and a variety of volunteer, spiritual and non-spiritual, programming-including yoga, art, music and gardening. Our on-site medical services are contracted through Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Visits are provided seven days a week with respective unit times. The visitation schedules are located at our lobby front desk upon arrival to a juvenile’s first Court hearing. A listing of the visitation schedule can also be viewed further below. Schedule times are assigned in alphabetical order according to our resident’s last name.

The Youth Center must be compliant with the laws and regulations set forth by the Ohio Department of Youth Services (ODYS). ODYS conducts an annual site inspection. Inspectors tour the Youth Center to verify that youth center policy, procedures and practices are being followed. Hamilton County Juvenile Court Youth Center is an active member of Performance Based Standards, a data-driven improvement model grounded in research that holds juvenile justice agencies to the highest standards for operations, programs and services. The Youth Center is accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare, whose mission is to improve the quality of healthcare in jails, prisons, and juvenile confinement facilities. The Youth Center’s Suicide Prevention Program has been nationally recognized as a model for juvenile facilities.*

Health screenings are performed on new admissions 24 hours daily. The screening includes questions regarding immediate health problems, presence of infectious diseases, fitness assessment for placement in the general housing population. The medical history elicits information regarding current health concerns, exposure to sexually transmitted infections, psychiatric history (including previous suicide attempts), and substance abuse.

The physical examination is performed by the Nurse Practitioners and physicians from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) Teen Health Clinic. Laboratory testing is collected and sent to CCHMC laboratory for processing. Licensed Practical Nurses administer medications and treatments. Individual and group health education and counseling is provided. University of Cincinnati Hospital and CCHMC provide emergency services. Outpatient clinics at University Hospital and CCHMC are utilized for non-emergency follow-up care, which includes trauma, surgery, orthopedic, hand surgery, oral surgery, and pregnancy. Dental services are provided by "Stay Floss N Dental."
